Ants and Frogs

"I don't want to see the frog"
the frog that no one wanted to touch

After Kenny had worked so hard on cleaning the patio, I decided to go to Lowe's this morning with Sean to get some plant holders and seeds. We came home and we planted some new plants that we will watch grow and Sean "helped" me clean some of our vinyl siding on the patio. We both wound up soaked in water, but Sean had fun and I was pleased with the way the patio is shaping up. I had also bought a plant that is already grown and had set it on the center of the patio table. Sean must have not seen me do this, because when we came back outside this evening, he said with his eyes wide, "it grew, mommy"! I had to laugh. I told him, "no baby, that was already grown and we have to wait and watch for our other plants to grow." I know that he'll have a lot of fun watering the plants and looking for them to grow.

We did encounter a lot of "ant pilts". Sean and I both got some bites :(. His curiosity got the better of him (which it always does) and he took his foot and touched the pile, just enough for the ants to come out and bite us both.

Before the rain came, we saw a frog. We see many of those because of where we live and Sean has never been afraid, but today he wanted nothing to do with it. Here are some pics.

Training Day

Today, we woke up earlier than usual, because, Cody, the "bug man" as Sean refers to him, was coming over to spray. Sean loves to follow him around and watch. After Cody left, we headed to the sports store for more t-ball equipment. Kenny said that Sean throws better with his left hand and he also thought it would be cute to get him cleats! So, I found the right glove and got the cleats, but not before a major three year old tantrum, complete with sassy talking to me. Getting up early, just made his mood worse. I had talked to Sean on the way home about putting on his big boy underwear. He started telling me "no". I've been preparing him for this for a couple of weeks now and showed him his "potty toys" this morning.
When we got home, Sean became hysterical and started to cry when I tried to put on the underwear, so I let the issue alone and he took a 2 1/2 hour nap!!
After his nap, I asked if he wanted to try the underwear and he said, "no, thank you". We played for a little bit and he noticed his reward toys, so he let me put the underwear on him. We went to the backyard, since he was just in his shirt and underwear and brought a lot of apple juice with us. It was windy, so I told Sean to look at the trees and watch the leaves dance. I didn't think he was paying attention, but later, he said, "mommy, the leaves are dancing". It was so sweet. Then, he opened the ice chest and lo and behold, he found a baby frog! I'm terrified of them, so I walked away, but he wanted to hold the frog. I told him that Daddy would get the frog for him when he got home. I wanted to take a picture of him looking at the frog, but I figured that in years to come when he reads this, he wouldn't like it if he saw pictures of him in his underwear posted on here! I kept telling Sean to tell me when he had to pee, but instead, he told me as he was doing it and then he thought it would be fun to jump in the puddle he had made and he laughed. At this point, I cleaned him up and put him back in the pull-ups.
When, Kenny came home, they went outside to see the frog, but it jumped away. Later, Sean told me that the frog went home. We'll try training again, later.

Boys Will Be Boys

Sean went to school today and learned about frogs. He held a frog, painted a picture of a frog and fed a frog. He said he liked it. This coupled with his curiosity with ants has told me that we are entering the "bugs in my pocket and jumping in mud" phase.

After school, Sean took a nap....yeah!! School seems to wear him out. We had to run an errand near Covington, so we went to visit Aunt Debbie and Cousin Kyle. Sean has the best time at their house. Kyle is 6 yrs older than Sean and Sean has a blast following Kyle and wanting to be just like him. The boys decided to play outside throwing basketballs around while Debbie and I watched. Did I mention that it rained today? On the northshore, we have culverts in our neighborhoods that become muddy and rain filled. You can see where this is headed. Sean threw a ball into a culvert and went in after it. He then, discovered how much fun it was to make the ball splash in the mud. Kyle started to laugh the more Sean jumped in the mud. This made Sean jump even more. By the end, Sean's tan socks were now brown. I tried not to fuss and started to take pictures. Since I only have a sister, spending all of my time with boys (Kenny and Sean) is a new experience. I now am learning to like bugs and mud puddles. Sean had so much fun and his laugh made the laundry I am now doing all worth it.
