Kenny was home this Labor Day which I don't think has happened in the last couple of years. So, I decided that we should bbq and have some family time.
We both wound up sleeping in with Sean being awake. We're still not sure how that happened. After a long lazy am, Kenny grilled lunch for us which was followed by a water gun fight. We all 3 had a really good time.
Chronicling the daily antics with our little boy, Sean Patrick. You are our little Irish lad because Daddy is really proud of his Irish heritage and wants to pass this on to you. Your middle name, Patrick is a family name which is the middle name of Uncle Danny.

The Fearless Scooter Rider
I thought that we would beat the heat today, but I was wrong :(. Apparently, I didn't get us out of the house soon enough. Sean wanted to ride his scooter, so we went out to the front yard. After walking half way down the street, I convinced him to ride in the driveway while I sat and read the mail. All of the sudden, he fell. I gasped and I swear this seemed like a Jack Tripper moment from Three's Company. Sean jumped up and said, "I'm okay, I'm okay, everything is okay. I was just going too fast". My mouth hung open as he brushed himself off and jumped back on.
My child finally napped today (although it was very short) and then we went out to the backyard and I filled his water guns and let him play. He squirted me a couple of times and then I figured I could get him to water the plants with his guns!

Showdown At the Corral
Let me start by saying that I hate guns. I am married to a part time cop, my brother-in-law is an ATF agent, my father-in-law was a former cop and is now in the security business, my other brother-in-law was also a former part time cop. Sean has played with his older cousin's toy guns much to my chagrin. I managed to keep a toy gun out of his hands until he was 3, but now he sees one and he wants to play with one and his daddy and uncles want to give him some, as well.
Sean knows the rules. He is not to point it at anyone or anything. He can only "shoot" targets or the wall. I don't know why some boys, if not all, like to play with these. Since he has a water gun, we went outside today to play cowboys. Sadly, Sean doesn't really now what a cowboy is, because there are no cartoons or books that I've found with a cowboy in it. Anyway, that's how I feel about guns and here are some pics that will make Kenny and Sean's uncles smile.

Playdate At The Water Spout Park
Today we went to the water park with some friends from our newest mommy group. Sean was the only child completely dry for quite awhile. He liked going up and down the stairs. With some coaxing, he finally went into the water. However, once he got water in his eyes, he was finished.

Splish Splash
The heat this time of year is unbearable, so Sean and I did some shopping and then after his nap, we played in the water. I had just bought him an inflatable ball that when connected to a hose shoots out water. It worked for a little while and Sean for some reason seemed to be afraid of it. Soon, the ball started to fill with water instead of squirting the water out of the spouts. I have the worst luck with anything inflatable. I spent about an hour trying to drain that thing of water while Sean ran around the yard and played with the hose.
The ball still had water in it and I gave up and filled his little pool up with water. I was so hot, that I got in it, too. I even slid down the small slide! Sean said that I was a silly mommy :). We played for a long time and then came in and took our bathes in my tub with the water jets. Sean had the best time and after his bath, hugged me and told me that he had so much fun. These are the days I love!!!

Sunday Fun
I went to early Mass and then to my RCIA class, so Sean and Kenny were on their own this morning. They had breakfast together and then when I came home, Kenny was taking Sean for a bike ride. Sean calls it his "big bike".
We were all ready for a nap and Sean and Kenny let me sleep a long time! When I got up, I decided to cut the grass since Kenny had to work this evening. Sean was so good while he watched me mow the lawn. Afterwards, we watered the plants and then Sean had fun playing in his pool.

Playdate and Water Fun
Sean and I went to the Trailhead Water Park to meet a new mommy's group. Sean still isn't interested in the water, though. He likes to fill his cup and dump it, but he mainly enjoys walking up the staircase to look at the fire house or to run over and climb up on the music stage. After chasing him around in the heat for awhile, we decided to go. I was in need of more coffee and I promised Sean a lollipop at Kenny's office which was nearby. On the way home, I asked Sean what he wanted to do when he got "big" for his work, b/c he knows that Daddy was at work and he said, "I want to drive". Yesterday, he wanted to be a firefighter so he could touch the fire hydrants. :).
After his nap, he ate his snack (popcorn) and I made some cupcakes. I promised him that he could sprinkle them with the candy bits when they were cooled. After 15 min. of him asking if they were ready, I let him play in his little pool outside. He finally started pouring water on himself and then onto me!! He had a lot of fun and then enjoyed his cupcake after dinner.

Water and Bouncing
This morning Sean and I met are friends, Kimberly and Mason at the Trailhead to let the boys play in the water spouts. I don't think that Sean even got wet. The boys were more interested in filling their cups with water and then running with them and dumping the water on the ground. They also found an old ball and made their way (with me and Kimberly in tow) to the stage where they climbed up and then we made them take turns throwing the ball to us. Kimberly and were exhausted from chasing them, so we soon lured them out to our cars. On the way, Sean and Mason were walking and holding hands. I wish that I had my camera out.
Sean was pretty tired and took a nap right away. After his nap, I got out his bounce house which he played in for about 10 min total.
I'm hoping that all of this has made my little guy tired and we will finally have an early bedtime.

Playdate With The Boys
Today, Sean had a playdate at the Trailhead (water spout park) with Nico, Dominic and Mason. Nico and Dominic are 4 and Sean and Mason are 3. All are only children. Do you see where I'm heading with this? None of them are used to sharing their toys and they try to take each others toys, as well.
Dominic had Sean's water can and when Sean saw him with it, he went nuts. Sean wanted Mason's pail and Mason almost bit him, until Kimberly stepped in. All in all, the kids had fun. Sean liked the water, but still was the only one there with dry hair. Mason and Sean liked to wander up the steps and look out at the fire station. Those boys love firetrucks.
I enjoyed getting caught up with my friends and Sean did enjoy the park for the most part. Later today, Sean and I had a great time outside blowing bubbles and talking. He is so funny!!
This evening, Kenny had to work, so Sean and I went back outside and played with his dinosaur pool. He has named the dinosaur, "dinosaur pootie". That's boys, for you. We had the best time, spraying each other with the dino's spout and then jumping in the pool. We had our clothes on and were both soaking wet, but laughing so hard. Nothing is sweeter than hearing Sean laugh.

An Ordinary Day
Sean and I are trying to adjust to the summer. He and I are both used to him going to school 2 days a week. He even asked me this morning if he was going to school and he was excited. Poor guy. I had to tell him that he will go soon. I think we're both waiting for the summer camp session to start.
Sean had a rough time sleeping last night. He didn't fall asleep until 10:30 and then woke up at midnight. He then, woke up a couple of more times wanting me to rub his back. So, we were both a little cranky today.
We had to go run errands and then came home for a long nap. After our nap (yes, I slept, too today) we went outside and played. Thank God, no ant bites today. Tomorrow, we have a playdate at the trailhead with the water spouts, so I know Sean will have fun.
We did manage to get in a little bit of waterplay!!

Potty Training Day 2
j
Sean woke up this morning and for some reason thought that Kenny was going to cut the grass (I know he wants to ride the "tractor"). I told him that Daddy was working, then he said, "are you ready to play with me" and I laughed because my eyes were barely open and I hadn't had my coffee, yet. He knows already that I love coffee, so he said, "when you finish" and kept checking my coffee mug to see if I was done. We played with his toys and then we made a get well card for his cousin Megan. I did the writing and Sean cut out paper and glued them, put stickers on it and drew a circle. We dropped this off in Megan's mailbox.
We came home and put the big boy underwear on and then we started to make cookies. I let Sean turn on the mixer and then, use the cookie cutter. He had the most fun eating the dough. We're making baseball cookies so that I can practice the icing. I want to bring cookies for his last t-ball game. While we were doing this, I heard, "mommy, I'm peeing". We ran to the potty, but it was too late. I told him that if he uses the potty that Handy Manny will call him. He smiled and then told me matter of factly that "Handy Manny is busy in his repair shop". I just stood there mystified...he is so clever!! I told him that Manny would make time to call him. We're having one of Kenny's friends call as Handy Manny.
After his nap, we went outside to play in the sprinkler. He had so much fun!! He is liking the water better this summer. We had a few more accidents and no luck on the potty. I'm beginning to think he is too clever for this! He gave me the third degree about Handy Manny calling him. Sean: where are the tools? Me: they'll be napping when Manny calls you. Sean: where's Mrs. Portillo? (character from the show) Me: she's at her bakery. Sean: I want to go to the repair shop. Me: it's too far away for us to go, baby.
I think that he is so independent that he will potty when he is ready and when it's own his terms.
